The Door

The Door

What lies beyond the other side of my door?
What lies indeed.  I could open my door and go on an adventure.  I could wander about, hop on a plane or train, or drive my automobile to faraway places.  I could have a grand life “out there”.

I could also stay on this side of my door and have adventures.  I have hundreds of books that could transport me to the 1700’s and times of swashbuckling adventures.  I could visit Robinson Crusoe’s island, I could go to war, or I could get in a gunfight at the OK Corral.

Sometimes my door has led me into human predicaments that were best left alone, had I only known what lay on the other side of those thresholds.  If I had stopped on this side I’d have more money and less heartache.  But this is not the time nor place to play the “If Only” game.

My door has sometimes been a knife and fork, and today that has led me into recovery mode from heart surgery.  I seem to have eaten a slice or two too much of bacon and pecan pie and such.

My door has opened to some amazing adventures in the work place. Oh, the places I’ve gone and the people I’ve met.  Pretty amazing.

You do see, I hope, that this is my door I speak of, and the door knob is always in my hand.  It’s called ‘choice’ and I have used it all of my life.

I’ve opened the door to some less than prudent relationships and I’ve also hit the jackpot with Carolyn.

Choices!  We never get far from this gift, do we?

What are the doors you face?  Where do they lead?  And the BIG one … are they right and appropriate for you at this time?

This is what is on my mind today.

What People Need in 2018

What People Need in 2018

If you rub elbows with any other human being in 2018, then you need to know and understand these five principles.

~People still need to be validated and
recognized as having worth.  They cry out – “Do you see me?  Do I matter to you?”
~Remember their name and use it.  It is the most important possession they own.
~Recognize and praise in public.  Reprimand in private.
~Share the vision of where you’re going.  They have great ideas too.
~The deepest craving of every human heart is to be recognized and appreciated.

Enough for today.

My 2018 Guarantee Didn't Arrive

My 2018 Guarantee Didn’t Arrive

It’s 2018 and my guarantee didn’t arrive.  Did yours?

I have been expecting promises of good health, good will, a larger bank account, better relationships … you know the drill – more and bigger and better.

Now what am I going to do?

I think my guarantee promised more readers, more esteem as a writer.  That one didn’t come either.

I also ordered a golden parachute.  It was supposed to catch me when I fall, prevent injury and illness from attacking and assure my investments would all range in the double digits.

Now what?

I guess I’ll just have to do life anyway.  I’ll make my plans more carefully, I’ll weigh the odds, I’ll consider my options, I’ll tread with steps of discernment and wisdom.  I’ll find my faith … faith in my own resilience, my own strength and stamina and in God.  I’ll push myself when appropriate, I’ll dream often, I’ll still do life well.

You see, I still have my faith in my inner compass.

Maybe I don’t need a guarantee after all.
